Our work
Our model

Community-owned. Locally-built. Lasting.

Most water projects fail within 5 years. Ours don't — because we never build alone.

Every well, every pipeline, every rainwater system we install is co-built and fully owned by the community it serves. We train local technicians, fund local maintenance committees, and don't leave until the system has run for two unsubsidized years.

  • Community-led design — sites, technology, and timing all decided locally.
  • Local employment — 87% of project costs go to local labor and materials.
  • Maintenance funded for 3 years — then transitions to local cost-recovery.
  • Audited annually — finances and impact data, public.

Stories

Voices from the communities we work with

"Before the well, my daughters walked 4 hours every day for water. Now they're in school. Two of them want to be teachers. One wants to be a doctor."

Adelaide N.

Mother of three · Turkana, Kenya

"I was trained as the village water technician. River Forward trained me, and now my community pays me to keep our system running. It feels like real work."

Yusuf O.

Maintenance lead · Tanga, Tanzania

"The maintenance committee meets monthly. We collect a small fee from each family. The system has run without an outside grant for two years now."

Rebecca A.

Water committee chair · Uganda
